Connecting
with
Windows98: |

|
|
First, if the computer you are setting up has never been connected to the Internet,
navigate to the Winfiles.com site for
instructions on how to install the Dial Up Adapter and the proper protocols for a PPP
connection. When you are finished you should
return to this page for BayouCity's specific connection configuration by clicking the BACK
button on you browser.
If you are moving your Interent connection to
BayouCity.Net from another provider, Dial Up Networking should already be installed.
If this is the case, you can skip this step and start with the next paragraph.
Open the Control Panel (under My Computer) and you
should see an icon called Dial Up Networking. Double click to open and select Make New
Connection. You should see something close to the screen below. In the name box type
BayouCity.Net and then below choose the type of modem that you have.

|
| To properly configure your modem,
click on the Configure button. You should see a screen as shown below, depending on the
type of modem you have. Generally the modem options will already be configured for your
modem type.

|
|
Click on the Connection
tab below, and
set the properties as shown below:

|
| After you finish setting the modem
properties, click OK and then choose Next. You should see a window like this:

|
| Leave the (Area code:)
blank and enter the area code and the phone number together under (Telephone
number:) the and choose Next. You can change the name of your New Connection, or
choose the Back button to change any of the setup options. Choose Finish and an icon for
your New Connection will be created in Dial Up Networking.

|
| The next step is configuring your New
Connection for BayouCity. Right Click on your New Connection icon (the one that you
created) and choose Properties. Click on the
"Server Type" button and you should see a window like the one above. The
"Type of Dial up Server" should be set to "PPP: Internet, Windows NT
Server, Windows 98". After you confirm this, remove the check in every box
except "TCP/IP"
|
| One final step. With your right
mouse button, right click on your BayouCity icon. When the menu appears, click on
the Properties selection. When
the BayouCity properties box appears, make sure that the Use
country code and area code box is NOT checked. |

| All done. You are ready to dial
in to BayouCity.Net. Double click on the icon you created and Windows will prompt you for
your user name and password. Enter these two items, check on the box that says
"Remember Password", click OK, and the modem should dial. You will see a brief
dialogue that says "verifying username and password" and then a window that
lists your connect speed and the duration of your current connection. Congratulations... you're connected! You can now use
any of the Internet clients that are installed on your computer. BayouCity.Net recommends
that you visit Microsoft's WWW Site and
download the latest copy of Internet Explorer for the most satisfying web experience. |
